The Healing Power of the Blues

Photographs by Dusty Scott

Last year we told you of the inaugural Project Blues in Columbus, Ohio. As we told you, the special concert raised money for cancer patients and their families in the Central Ohio region. Well, the first one was such a success that the organizers recently put on their second successful event. On August 18, artists and fans gathered at the LifeCare Alliance Center, home of the Columbus Cancer Clinic to have a good time for a good cause.

The hosts were Jonn Del Toro Richardson and Tom Holland. The headliners were Anson Funderburgh with Christian Dozzler and Diunna Greenleaf. The show also featured Bob Margolin, Kenny Smith, Bob Stroger, Dave Specter, Omar Coleman, Rich DelGrosso, and Columbus’ own Marty Romie and Brian Duress. Dave West sat in on drums and John Popovich played keyboards. Local boy Sean Carney was a featured special guest.

Photographer Dusty Scott was going to miss this one, so he loaded up the gear and headed to Columbus. On this week’s Photo Page Dusty shares some of her personal photos.

Dusty had this to say of the shows: “What an excellent adventure! On Friday the LifeCare Alliance had the tables filled with clients that they bussed in for a personal blues show. Diunna had them up in walkers and canes boogiein’ in the aisles!

“Diunna’s first set on Saturday was the best show I had seen all year. Every artist reached deep in their blues well and fed off each others’ energies. With Christian, Omar, Sean, Jonn, Bob, Tom, and Rich all firing on all cylinders behind a deeply moving set of performances by Diunna, I had to keep pulling up my jaw from the floor in order to capture the moments that were non-stop.”

As always, our photographers share their work with you for your enjoyment. If you wish to share them or use them for any other purpose, please contact the photographer or our offices.
