Well done Rev.
I first heard him on a friends parents console as well (Are You Experienced). It's one of those never forget where or when or how it looked and felt life moments!

Great article Rev...The first tune I heard by Jimi was "The Wind Cries Mary" in the Spring of '67 and I was pretty amazed fer sure.Later in the Summer of '67 after I had gotten out of High School I was living in NYC in The Village, and one day I happened to buy a copy of the American release of "Are You Experienced" from a friend of mine that was selling off her records to make rent money. Shortly thereafter I also happened to, for the first time, partake of a substance known as Blue Cheer and at that party I put on "Are You Experienced" and from the very first chords of "Purple Haze" I was completely blown away and I truly have not been the same since. I can't over estimate the profound effect that Jimi and his music has had, and continues to have, on me and will, until the day I die.

Greetings Rev. Billy,

Thank you for this excellent, well-observed piece! My first listen to "Are You Experienced?" changed my life. I subsequently saw Jimi five times, and your writing vividly conveys the broad shadow cast by Jimi's work, persona and spirit.

Hendrix was truly a once-in-a-lifetime artist, but people should bear in mind that it was Jimi's hard work and tireless dedication to his crafts that enabled him to bring his gifts to fruition. Thanks again for this beautiful piece!

Best regards,
Michael

Thanks for the trip down nostalgia lane. As a 60 year old touched by the same "Experience" (in much the same way), I don't let too much time pass without cranking up Experience, Axis, or Electric Ladyland. But my favorite tale is that my dad took a bunch of 14/15 year olds to the Singer Bowl in Flushing Meadow to see Jimi headlining a show with Big Brother, the Chambers Bros ... and the Soft Machine, if you're counting. The highlight of the tale is actually NOT the fact that our collective minds were blown but hearing my dad STILL tell the tale (at age 95) of talking his way into the venue and me tell note how he ended up in a better seat!

Thanks again, Phil
