I can't believe how horrible this review is. Not the fact that the reviewer doesn't like the material. But how badly the review was executed. These CDs are packed with masterpieces of early recordings, and the reviewer is stuck on recording quality, instrument tuning and pitch. Factors that are in some way irrelevant when it comes to this type of music. "It's not easy to listen to". That is somewhat correct. It just requires a small amount of effort. Like getting used to a different language. Put aside the crisp CDs, slick productions and electronic instrument tuners and spend some time among the roots...

Kim, you may not have been the right person to review this set. There are an awful lot of us who love the sound of old recordings. I own the first set and I certainly plan on getting this one. I have to say that I actually prefer the old recordings to the super-clean, processed, compressed, over-dubbed stuff that comes out today. I spend a lot of time on http://www.weeniecampbell.com, an internet station that plays pre-war blues 24 hours a day. These old recordings are a wonderful window into a musically rich past.
